Dr. Sidney Jacoby, MD

Education and Training

Dr. Jacoby received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Medical Doctor degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He then completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Thomas Jefferson University with additional Fellowship training in Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgery with The Philadelphia and South Jersey Hand Centers, as well at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Jacoby is Board-Certified by the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery with additional Subspecialty
Certification in Surgery of the Hand.

Honors and Awards

2011-2012 American Society for Surgery of the Hand Young Leaders Program
Awarded to academic hand surgeons interested in national leadership positions and a career track promoting scientific advancement in the field of hand surgery.

June 2008 The Philip Syng Physick Award
Awarded by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for the most outstanding research project by a graduating chief resident.

2006-2008 Editor, Jefferson Orthopaedic Journal
Selected by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Research Department.

June 2006 The Mark D. Chilton Award
Presented by the Orthopaedic faculty to the resident demonstrating an outstanding level of kindness and compassion for patients entrusted to their care.

2003-2004 Excellence in Surgical Teaching Award
Presented by Jefferson Medical College students to the surgical intern who provided exceptional surgical education and training.

2002-2003 The James D. and Jennie M. Beach Memorial Scholarship
Full academic scholarship awarded for Scholastic Excellence and Extraordinary commitment to Jefferson Medical College.

2002 Insall Orthopaedic Research Award
Presented by the Knee Society at the 2002 AAOS Annual Meeting for the most outstanding clinical research study: "Why Are Total Knee Arthroplasties Failing Today?"

Dr. Jacoby currently holds several appointments including:
  • Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery - Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
  • Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery - Phoenixville Hospital
  • Chief of Hand Surgery - Phoenixville Hospital
  • Medical Director - Limerick Surgery Center, Outpatient Division of Phoenixville Hospital.

Professional and Organizational Posts

Dr. Jacoby serves as Director of Clinical Research at the Hand Rehabilitation Foundation, sits on the Admissions Committees for the Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU), the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at TJU and the Hand Surgery Fellowship Program at TJU. He is an instructor in Upper Extremity Anatomy at Jefferson Medical College and serves on numerous educational and administrative committees, both at Thomas Jefferson University and Phoenixville Hospital.

In addition to his extensive local appointments, Dr. Jacoby is very active on a national scale as he sits on numerous steering, communication, editorial and advisory committees for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the Journal of Hand Surgery, and others.
